Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple, is a Buddhist monastery in Punakha District, Bhutan. Built in 1499 by Ngawang Chogyal, it was blessed by the famous Drukpa Kunley, also known as the Divine Madman, who subdued a demon at the site2. The temple is known for its unique fertility blessings, where visitors—especially couples hoping for children—are tapped on the head with a 10-inch wooden phallus3.

The monastery sits atop a round hillock, which Kunley humorously described as resembling a woman’s breast. The surrounding village of Sopsokha is famous for its houses adorned with phallus paintings, a tradition believed to ward off evil spirits.
